About this winery
The history of Marchesi Mazzei is the story of Tuscany, uniting the family and famous region since the 11th century. The winery’s roots in the territory span over 600 years and continue to expand through wineries and vineyards, including Castello di Fonterutoli in the heart of Chianti Classico, Belgvardo in Maremma (Tuscany) and Zisola in Noto (Sicily). With Ser Lapo Chianti Classico Riserva, the Marquis Mazzei celebrate their notable ancestor Ser Lapo, author of the first official document mentioning “Chianti wine” (December 16th, 1398).
Production notes
The winery is in Castellina in Chianti. The vineyards’ location are Cornia (250-330m) and Caggiolo (290-350m). The soil is made of clay and limestone and in Caggiolo, of calcareous alberese with clay texture. Vineyards are aged from 15-35 years. Hand picked harvest. Fermentation temperature (26-28° C). Period of maceration (15-18 days). Ageing in small French oak barrels (225/500 lt - 50% new) for 12 months.
Tasting notes
Fresh, tannic, with aroma of berries, strong structure, earthy and intense taste.
