La Rioja Alta S.A. was founded in 1890 in Haro, Rioja Alta. La Rioja Alta S.A. owns 4 wineries in Spain including the winery bearing its name. In addition to La Rioja Alta, S.A. the Group own Torre de Oña, a single estate winery located in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, Lagar de Cervera in Rías Baixas, and Áster in Ribera del Duero. The wineries owned by La Rioja Alta S.A. focus on the balance between tradition and modernization of their winemaking, vineyard management and facilities. The group controls viticulture, owning 100% of all vineyards and thus enabling the wineries complete control over the quality and production. Focused on limited production, under 5,000 kilos per hectare, the wineries manage their vineyards with careful oversight from the beginning of the growing cycle until harvest. Respect for nature is at the forefront of their vineyard management practices, with minimal intervention in the vineyards, and 40 acres dedicated to organic viticulture. The team takes equal care in its winemaking practices, expertise honed over generations.
