Product notes

Pittacum carries the legacy of centuries of winemaking in the Bierzo Valley, its name inspired by Roman heritage and the discovery of a Bacchus medallion among the vineyards. Since its founding, the mission has been clear: to craft wines with personality, reliability, and quality, always honoring the unique soils, slopes, and microclimates of Bierzo. The grapes come from more than 200 different vineyard plots across 45 hectares of centenary vines, cultivated under the expertise of Alfredo Marqués. The plots are located all over the Bierzo region, which gives various types of soiIs and very different climatic conditions. These include slopes of deep loamy soil conducive to a complete maturation of the tannins. These soils preserve acidity, the backbone of Pittacum. This acidity enables a long barrel ageing and allows the wine to gain complexity in the bottle over the years. The old vines, which are bush- trained and planted at high density, are worked and harvested by hand.

Production notes

Different types of vinification are used depending on the location of the vineyard. Great care is taken during the fermentation to selectively extract the finest tannins. The wine undergoes between 8 and 10 months ageing in French oak barrels, 20% of which are new.
