Product notes
Renaissance is made from an exceptional vine ‘’franc de pied’’, meaning without grafting them on American stocks, as was the practice before the phylloxera epidemic of 1864. This 1.32-hectare Gamay vineyard was planted in 1992 and realized from vine shoots collected on the Domaine which then went into a wine nursery for a year. The soil is quite compact, very clayey, and stony.
Production notes
The harvest is totally handpicked. Each bunch is picked with care and gently placed into small harvesting containers. Those baskets are shallow in height to allow one layer of grape bunches. They are collected and taken to the winery where they are emptied into stainless steel tank under carbon dioxide atmosphere. An intracellular fermentation starts off slowly and last about 5 to 6 days. The transformation of the juice into wine is realized largely inside each grape, without any yeasting or other oenological products and above all without input of sulphites.
Tasting notes
Made from vines non-modified by human intervention through grafting, and using natural winemaking techniques, this wine is crafted in the style of the Renaissance. No sulfur, no phylloxera back then! The result is stunning. The color is deep and intense, with aromas reminiscent of dark fruits (blackberries, cherries, and blackcurrants). It's a wine with complex fruit flavors and great elegance.
