About this winery

Started in 2005 by 9 friends from a remote village on the west coast of Denmark, Stauning Whisky – taking its name from the village - is a new Nordic whisky created from passion, curiosity and the will to experiment and create. The vision was a 100% Danish whisky, one which reflected the place. The friends started to produce whisky the way they wanted using locally grown rye and barley, floor-malting and small fire-heated pot stills. Product notes

Single malt whisky made using floor malted local barley, smoked over local heather and peat and double distilled in direct-fired pot stills. This unparalleled approach creates fresh and crisp orchard fruit notes, followed by gentle smoke. A bold and complex Single malt whisky, with incredible balance.

Production notes

• Peat and heather smoked floor malted barley. • Double distilled in direct-fired pot stills. • Aged for 4-6 years in new American white Oak barrels (heavy char), ex. Bourbon barrels, Madeira barrels and Rum barrels. • Bottled at the Stauning distillery. • Natural colour. Not chill filtered.

Tasting notes

Gentle bonfire smoke combined with elegant citrus notes and honey sweetness on the nose. On the palate rich notes of tobacco, liquorice, walnuts and vanilla. Balanced by the scent of fresh herbs and soothing wood smoke in the finish.
