Product notes

In 1998, Henry and Jean-Sébastien Marionnet had the good fortune to acquire the oldest vineyard in France, planted between 1800 and 1850! To understand its significance, one must go back to the 1860s, when a devastating insect, phylloxera, gradually destroyed the entire French vineyard and practically that of the world. At Henry Marionnet's estate, only this plot of Romorantin grapes remained unaffected. In 2007, knowing that a plot of land was lying fallow, the Marionnets decided to create a new vineyard on this land, using vines grown from cuttings of old Romorantin vines, and of course, without grafting. The resulting wine is called provignage and is highly sought after in restaurants.

Production notes

This wine is the result of a rare experiment that allows researchers to study the influence of vine age on wine quality. It is a blend of vines planted between 1800 and 1850, and another planted in 2007. The name La Pucelle de Romorantin refers to the virgin vines, which have never been grafted onto an American rootstock. 2010 is the first vintage produced.
