About this winery
The story begins at Château Paul Mas in Conas hamlet, in the splendid town of Pézenas, the city of famous playwright Molière. The estates then expanded to Montagnac, with Nicole vineyard and Mas des Tannes. Jean-Claude Mas’s great-grandfather, Auguste Mas, bought the first family vineyard in 1892, when he aquired 9 ha (22 acres) of vines in the Mas de Bicq, near the village of St Pons de Mauschiens. Production notes
De-stemming of the grapes. Fermentation at 24°C the first 2 days then up to 26°C. Two daily pumping over the hat during the 1st third of the fermentation. Post-fermentation maceration at 25°C for 12 days. Ageing: 20% of the cuvée is partially aged in barrels of 1-2 wines for 4 months. The other 80% are aged in stainless steel vats.
Tasting notes
Garnet red colour with ruby reflections. Intense aromas of red fruits (raspberry), notes of tobacco, cocoa, and aromas of spicy vanilla. Round palate with fine tannins. Tasty, with notes of ripe cherries on the mid-palate, vanilla, and spices. Fruity and persistent finish. An ideal companion for your daily meals or dinner aperitifs such as a salad, pasta Bolognese, or barbecued meats.
