About this winery
The history of Marchesi Mazzei is the story of Tuscany, uniting the family and famous region since the 11th century. The winery’s roots in the territory span over 600 years and continue to expand through wineries and vineyards, including Castello di Fonterutoli in the heart of Chianti Classico, Belgvardo in Maremma (Tuscany) and Zisola in Noto (Sicily). Product notes
From vineyards located at a great altitude in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, around a Romanesque church dating back to the 10th century. It uniquely combines the freshness and elegance of Sangiovese with the soft structure of Merlot. The winery location is at Fonterutoli, District of Castellina in Chianti. Le Ripe vineyard is located at 450 - 510 m. (1,476 - 1,673 ft) a.s.l. on rocky soil coming from decomposed limestone and sandstone. Spur cordon-training and Guyot training system.
Production notes
Hand picked. Fermentation temperature at 26-28° C. Period of maceration from 12-15 days. Ageing in American small oak barrels (225 lt) for 10 months.
