About this winery
The story begins at Château Paul Mas in Conas hamlet, in the splendid town of Pézenas, the city of famous playwright Molière. The estates then expanded to Montagnac, with Nicole vineyard and Mas des Tannes. Jean-Claude Mas’s great-grandfather, Auguste Mas, bought the first family vineyard in 1892, when he aquired 9 ha (22 acres) of vines in the Mas de Bicq, near the village of St Pons de Mauschiens. Product notes
In 2015, Jean-Claude Mas acquired the vineyard (65 ha) anchored in the terroir of Corbières. Oriented East/West, vines (5 to 75 years) are planted on clay-limestone, alluvial gravel and silty clay soil. Deep purple colour. Aromas of raspberry, blueberries, and savory flavors of garrigue and black olives. Full-bodied wine with velvety tannins and beautiful length.
Production notes
Separate vinification for each grape variety. The Carignan is partly harvested by hand. Fermentation followed by a 5-day maceration. Oak and cement vat from 50 to 250hl are use. 30% of the wine is aged in American and French oak barrels for 6 months. 30% in 50hl oak foudres and the rest in cement vats.
