The story begins at Château Paul Mas in Conas hamlet, in the splendid town of Pézenas, the city of famous playwright Molière. The estates then expanded to Montagnac, with Nicole vineyard and Mas des Tannes. Jean-Claude Mas’s great-grandfather, Auguste Mas, bought the first family vineyard in 1892, when he aquired 9 ha (22 acres) of vines in the Mas de Bicq, near the village of St Pons de Mauschiens. Product notes
The vineyard is anchored in the terroir of Corbières, located between the city of Carcassonne and Narbonne. In 2015, Jean-Claude Mas acquired it. Completely renovated, the cellar of the estate can now receive all the harvest in optimal condition for a careful vinification. Oriented East / West, the 80 hectares of vines of about twenty years old benefit from a clay-limestone and silty clay soil.
Production notes
Clay and chalk soil. Age of the vineyard (10-25 years old). Mechanical harvest at night to avoid oxidation. Destemming, separate vinification of each grape variety, pneumatic pressing, cold settling at 6-8°C. The press wines are vinified separately from the free-run juice and then reincorporated. Slow fermentation under controlled temperatures (15-18°C max) with selected yeasts. The different grape varieties are aged on the lees, partially in large wooden vats (1-5 years old) and in cement tanks until the final blending.
Tasting notes
Bright yellow color with green highlights. Great aromas with a range of fruit, spice, and floral aromas: passion fruit, lychee, gingerbread, and rose. Rich and fresh palate with a long, slightly fruity finish.
